A beautifully crafted cycle-powered carousel of the imagination. This handmade, human-powered merry-go-round combines hand-carved animals, puppetry, and original music.

The Bewonderment Machine is an artist-built kinetic public sculpture and a magical journey for small children. A theatrical flight of imagination, empowering the very young to care and to be curious a joyful call to re-wild our imaginations Beautiful to ride and just as beautiful to watch, the Bewonderment Machine has carved badgers, hares, deer and hedgehogs and riding space for 10 children at a time.

The Bewonderment Machine will be open from 11.30am to 12.15pm, 1.30pm to 2.15pm and 3pm 3.45pm. Just like a fairground ride, it’ll be first come first served!

The Bewonderment Machine has been created with the support of WITHOUT WALLS.

About A Bird in the Hand Theatre

The Bewonderment Machine was created by A Bird in the Hand Theatre is a puppet and mask theatre company based in West Yorkshire, combining the skills of artist Alison Duddle and puppeteer Mark Whitaker. The Bewonderment Machine is made in collaboration with Visual Artist and Found object whisperer Weston Hammond, engineer and kinetic sculptor Ian Broscomb and bicycle-powered performer Frances Merriman.
